Recital Tips

The following information is provided as a guideline so that parents and dancers, especially first-timers, will know what to expect. As always, if you have questions, please contact the front desk which will be happy to assist you.

Upon your arrival to the Rose Theatre…

For Dress Rehearsal and Recital:
Head immediately to the change rooms area. The rehearsal and recitals are taking place in the auditorium. The dressing rooms are located right behind the stage. Entrance into the building will be through the front doors. There will be signs posted to help you find them, and also to know which specific changerooms to use.

Each year all Rugcutterz Dancers perform in an entertaining recital held in a professional theatre.

Rehearsal Schedule (Recreational students only)
TBA

There will be a detailed rehearsal schedule posted in the reception area of the studio well before the rehearsal date. This is a dress rehearsal for all recreational classes only that will be held on (to be announced). The students should arrive at least one hour prior to the scheduled time. The teacher will inform you of details on the hair, make–up and any accessories for that particular routine. PLEASE BE PROMPT. We must run the numbers during the time they are scheduled. Once their routines are finished rehearsing, students are free to leave accompanied by a parent or guardian providing they are not performing that evening.

Please be advised that this is a closed rehearsal provided for your child’s benefit. Absolutely no viewing will be permitted in order to facilitate a productive and uninterrupted dress rehearsal.

There will also be a detailed schedule of the performances posted in the reception area of the studio. It will be listed by the class time and level, as well as by the name of the routine. Please check this list for your child’s routines, and keep in mind; a) what performance they are in, b) what order they are to perform in, and c) how many routines they have in between their numbers (if they are in more than one: this will help with knowing how much time they’ll have to change, etc.). Once the schedule is posted in the studio, and you have your child’s times, please refer back to this information and read over it.

The shows are approximately 2 and a half hours in length, taking approximately 3 minutes per routine. All audience members must have a ticket. We will let you know when tickets go on sale closer to the performance dates.

Please arrive at The Rose Theatre at least one hour early, especially if your child’s routine is in the first half of the performance. Please be aware that all dancers must be in costume and backstage near the changerooms ready to perform at least 10 routines before they perform. If your child has more than one routine, and they fall within 10 numbers of each other, please have them ready to change immediately after the first number, and be prepared as soon as possible for the next.

Please also keep in mind that it is the responsibility of the parent / guardian to dress and change your child into their costumes, as well as have their hair and make-up done, and be ready ahead of, or on schedule.

As we’re sure you know, this is a very important event for your child. Please be sure that they are in the appropriate place at the designated time in order for things to run smoothly and to prevent disappointment for your child or other members of the group. If everyone is ready ahead of schedule, these will run stress-free, making them an even more exciting and wonderful experience for your child to remember. We thank you in advance for your efforts in demonstrating great timing.

Recital Performance Schedule
TBA

Dancers young and old enjoy dressing up for their big debut at recital.
Please note that grooming is adjudicated along with the actual dance and performance.

Dancers will be notified regarding the hair style(s) required for each competitive routine. Please note that bangs are not permitted and will have to be pinned / gelled back. Each dancer should arrive at a competition in the appropriate hairstyle for the first number they are in. You will need; hairbrush, comb, long and short hairpins, hairspray, elastics, hair-nets for buns, gel or spray gel. Please purchase a supply of these items for your dancer. Do not rely on other dancers to supply these items.

TBA
Dancers will be notified at the beginning of the competitive season regarding the correct make-up to be worn by all dancers. It is important that all dancers apply and wear the same make-up for a uniform look. Please do not use other colour choices, as they are ineffective on stage. All dancers in a group number are supposed to look alike.

For hygienic reasons, please do not share make-up.

Most theatres do not have sufficient lighting or mirror space available for make-up application. Please include a mirror in your make-up case.

Please note that no nail polish, watches or jewelry may be worn on stage (including pierced earrings) unless part of the costume.

A full make-up and hair demonstration will be arranged for the 2008/09 dance season.  The dates will be announced shortly.
