COMPETITIVE DANCE PROGRAMS

Our award-winning competitive company has earned the reputation for producing cutting-edge choreography and our dancers have earned the praises of judges from across North America for their strong technique and showmanship.

Rugcutterz offers flexible competitive programs, each requiring different levels of commitment. Placement in any competitive program is by audition.
Part-Time / Half-Time Competitive Program
Program Requirements

Jazz
Tap
Ballet
Acro
Hip Hop (optional)

Dancers chosen for these programs travel to four competitions per season and compete in tap and jazz.
Rugcutterz takes great pride in its award-winning acro program.
Full-Time Competitive Program
The Full-Time Competitive program consists of companies segregated by ability and age.  Dancers participate in jazz, tap, acro and ballet classes each week.
Some dancers also have extra classes and routines included in their program, such as Lyrical, hip hop and more!

This is an intensive program that involves a high commitment from the student and family. Students should not miss classes throughout the year, unless previously discussed with the Directors. At times, the program requires some flexibility in schedules. Competition dates, rehearsal times, extra rehearsals, etc., are all dependent on a number of variables, and are subject to change.
Dancers round out their training with classes in lyrical dance.
Production Routines Mandatory

All Rugcutterz competitive companies, including part-time and half-time, will be participating in a production routine during the competitive dance season. Participation is mandatory and may require additional practice time. A production routine can be one or many forms of dance and is typically 7-10 minutes long and is based on a theme.

Competitive Assessment Info

Participation in Rugcutterz' competitive programs is by audition only. In most cases, assessments are done in the summer during our workshop or during a special audition class. By taking classes in the workshop, the student can be assessed by the Director, and may then be initially placed into a company. This placement is based on the dancer's ability, style, age and attitude in class. Throughout September, the teachers will continually assess all of the students to ensure they have been placed in the most appropriate company, and therefore may be moved to a different group during or after September. In any case, it is under the discretion of the Director, as to which company the student should participate in.
Rugcutterz strives to be on the leading edge of innovative tap routines.
Extra Routines

Competitive students may be offered additional routines for competition such as solos, duet/trios, small groups and specialty lines. These routines are offered to students once they have all been assessed by the Artistic Director during their classes. The basis for extra routine distribution is based on the dancer's ability, style, their attitude and participation in class, and also how they interact and dance with others in their company.

Additional Choreography Fees apply to any extra routines offered. These fees include choreography, rehearsal time, and brush ups between competitions. Although it is not mandatory for the student to participate, it is highly recommended and an honour to be chosen.

Each year, letters are given out to each full-time competitive student that list all of the extra routines that are being offered to them, as well as the corresponding choreography fees. Those selected for additional routines must notify reception as to which routines they will be accepting. The fees must be paid in order to book a rehearsal.

Each child's total cost of all additional routines which will include choreography fees.  The letter for all extras will go out before the end of November.

Rehearsals

Choreography and rehearsals for extra routines are done above and beyond the student's regular class times. A schedule of rehearsal times will be determined by the Directors and Choreographers. Requests for times can be made through reception, however we cannot guarantee a particular rehearsal time. We will try to accommodate as many requests as possible.

Solo bookings for rehearsals will be done on a first come first serve basis.
